He was born in Khachmaz village of Oghuz region on the 31st of October, 1953.he went to the first grade at Yagublu village secondary school in 1960. But his family moved their ancestral homeland – Sarijalar village of Zangibasar province of Western Azerbaijan in 1961. Koroglu completed his secondary education at Habil village school. And later, he entered the faculty of Auto Mechanics at the Azerbaijani Institute of Oil and Chemistry (present Oil and Gas Academy) in 1969. He was called for military service in 1972 and served in German Democratic Republic. Koroglu continued his education after he was discharged from the army in 1974.
He started his career at Baki Air conditioners Factory. Then, the situation in the country changed. Our compatriots were banished from Western Azerbaijan in 1988 and two years later, Black January events took place in 1990. But the biggest Tragedy of the century was still ahead. Khojali Tragedy happened on 26th of February, 1992. All these bloody events were enough for Koroglu in order to take up arms and stand in the defense of the country. He voluntarily enlisted in The National Army on the 17th of March, 1992. And soon, on the 30th of April, 1992 was appointed a commander of the Infantry Unit. From that day on, the glorious and heroic pass of Koroglu and his unit started.
Koroglu’s unit showed extreme courage and bravery in releasing Buzlug, Chartaz and Erkej villages from the enemy invasion on the 13th of June. They destroyed 15 enemy militants and captured a lot of enemy ammunition and military equipment. They became very much encouraged from the victory and released another village called Manashli the next day. Though they were outnumbered by the enemy, they released the village and destroyed 8 enemy soldiers. On the 15th of June, they again released another village clled Bashkend which was also a very important strategic post for the enemy. The victorious pass of the Unit continued and they released two more villages called Madagiz and Gulustan.
On the 21st of June 1992, the bloody battle for the sake of Madagiz village would not stop and Koroglu was all the time next to radio (receiver). He then heard that the battalion commander Y. Garayev and several soldiers were surrounded by the enemy. Koroglu together with his unit immediately headed to the place where his battle friends were surrounded and helped them to break the blockade. So, Madagiz village was released from the enemy invasion for the second time.
July the 3rd, 1992…Koroglu’s last battle. He heroically died in one of the battles for the sake of Aghdara region next to area called the 3rd State farm.
He was married and survived by three children.
Rahimov Koroglu Ismayil was posthumously awarded the title of the “National Hero of Azeraijan” by the decree # 203 of the president of Azerbaijani republic on the 16th of September, 1994.
He was buried in the Alley of Martyrs in Baki city. One of the streets in Baki city and the kindergarten in Khachmaz village of Oghuz region is named after the hero.
