Mirzayev Yusif Vali

He was born in Boyukduz village of Babak region on the 23^rd of May, 1958. He finished secondary school #1 after I. Safarali in Nakhchivan city in 1975. He started his career at Nakhchivan Communication Center in 1976. He was working and studying at Azerbaijani State Agricultural Institute (present Baki State University of Economics) in the faculty of Accounting at the same time. He was appointed as an auditor in one of the banks in Baki and graduating from the Institute in 1987.

Yusif joined the National Movement in 1988. During the Black January events on the 20^th of January, 1990, Russian soldiers captured him and tortured a lot. But it did not break him at all. Instead, those tortures made him even stronger against the enemy intrusion.

He was very much troubled both by social and political events that were happening within the country at that time and also by the crimes against innocents civilians committed by repellent Armenians in Garabagh.

Therefore, he bade farewell to a simple life and voluntary joined the army in 1991. Mirzayev’s first battle took place in the crossroads between Aghdara and Goranboy. He became an active fighter in a very short time and gained military knowledge as well. Thus, he was appointed as a Deputy Procurement by his commanders. He had a great role in releasing 17 villages of Aghdara region. But once, he was ambushed and surrounded by the enemy during one of the battles. But his quickness and resourcefulness helped them to break the siege and escape.

The brave son of the country died heroically in an unequal battle while helping his fellow soldiers to break the siege in Aghdara region on the 19^th of February, 1993.

He was married and had a daughter.

Mirzayev Yusif Vali was posthumously awarded the title of the “National Hero of Azerbaijan” by the decree # 495 of the president of Azerbaijani republic on the 27^th of March, 1993.

He was buried in Nakhchivan city Alley of Martyrs. One of the schools in Nakhchivan city as well as the school # 44 in Nasimi district of Baki city is named after the hero. There is also a monument of him in the school yard.
