Mehdiyev Fazil Umud

He was born in Alachi village of Lachin region on the 20th of August, 1966. His family moved to Abdal – Gulabli village of Aghdam region when he was very young. Fazil finished his secondary education in 1983 and was later called for military service.
He returned to his native village Abdal – Gulabli after completing military service in Sverdlovsk city. After a short while his moved to Russia in order to find a job there. But he decided to return back because his missed his own country very much. And after returning, he started working as a driver.
He was working as a driver within the sanatorium that was located in Abdal – Gulabli village. Meanwhile, armenian militants were attacking and shooting all the means of transportation that were leading to the areas such as; Shusha, Lachin regions and also Karkijahan village in order to make the ethnic Azerbaijani people leave their own homes.
Fazil took up arms as soon as these unwanted events had started. He was enlisted in the police battalion within Aghdam region Internal Affairs department in 1990.
He took an active part in the bloody battles that took place in Janyatag, Mehmana, Gazanchi, and Sirkhavand villages of Aghdara region. But he did not say anything to his family about his war experience yet. He returned and took his position among his battle friends again after being wounded despite the fact that the wound had not been fully healed yet.
Fazil Mehdiyev captured Lada Niva car that belonged to armenians and handed it over to Aghdam Region Police Department in Augustç 1991.
The night from the 23rd to the 24th of Sepember, 1991.......arennins started attacking Abdal – Gulabli village with a lot of militar equipment and manpower. The village was in danger to be occpupied by the enemy. As soon as Fazil heard the news his rushed to help him home village along with his frind Saleh. Armenians had an ambush on the road that was leading to Aghdam region. They were suddenly attacked by the enemy while passing through Aghulag village. And unfortunately the brave soldiers died heroically while hurrying to help their their families and home village.
He was single.
Mehdiyev Fazil Umud was posthumously awarded the title of the “National Hero of Azerbaijan” by the decree # 64 of the president of the republic of Azerbaijan on the 8th of October, 1992.
He was buried in the cemetery of Garaghaji village of Aghda region. His bust was in Nasimi district and there is also a street named after the hero in Sabayil district.
