Mammadov Aytakin Israyil

He was born in Goyali village of Gadabay region on the 29th of May, 1967. He finished secondary school in1984 and entered Vocational school in the same year where he studied to become a painter. He was called for military service in 1985 and partcipated in Afgan was as well. After being discharged from the army in 1987, he returned to Baki and started working in a construction company as a painter.

He was also verymuch troubled by the undeclared war of armenian militants against Azerbaijan. He was enlisted into the the Special Police Forces within the Ministry of Internal Affairs in 1991 in order to take up the armes in defense of the country against the invaders. The experience he gained while fighting in Afgan war was very much useful when protecting his own country.

A. M ammadov was sent to Khanlar region in order to protect the villages of th region from armenian aggressors in April of 1991.  Gushchu village of Khanlar region was under attack as well. The enemy was attcking the village everyday and killing inncocent civilians in order to occupy the region. Aytakin along with his battle frinds in order to protect the civilians and the village from the enmy invasion took position next to the village. But the enmy would not stop attacking. Aytakin started firing from his machine gun in order to make the enemy retreat. The enemy indeed retreated but Aytakin himself was severely wounded in this battle thus it was his last battle. The brave soldier closed his eyes forever.

He was single.

Mammadov Aytakin Israyil was posthumously awarded the title of the “National Hero of Azerbaijan” by the decree # 264 of the president of the republic of Azerbaijan on the 8th of October, 1992.

He was buried in Goyali village cemetery.

The secondary school of Goyali village is named after the hero and there is also a bust of him in the school.
