He was born in Nakhchivan city on the 11th of August, 1955. But he received his secondary education at school # 255 in Baki city. Later, he entered Baki School of Polygraphs and obtained a profession of a typist. He worked for a while in a Printing house. Later, in 1975 he was called for military service. Ali completed his military service in Hungary. Then he started working as a police officer in the Department of Internal Affairs in 1978. He entered Police Academy in 1982 and successfully completed his education two years later. After that, he was appointed as a district comissioner in Binagadi district of Baki city. He, as an exemplary police officer was sent for the training course of improvement of professional skills at Moscow Police Academy. After completing the course, he was promoted to the position of the head operation commissioner with the rank of the head police captain within the Department of Criminal İnvestigation.
The captain was observing Garabagh war very closely and wanted to take part in the battles as well. Finally, in the beginning of 1992, he was frequently sent to the front lines along with other police officers. Ali was sent to the battle zone in Lachin region on the 24th of September, 1992.
In order to take back Gizarti heights of strategic importance that were occupied by armenians, reconnaissance plan was evolved. Ali was also within the scouts’ team that was going to implement the plan. They heights were taken back during the night but on the 1st of October, the enemy counterattacked with more powerful forces. Ali helped the wounded to leave the battle zone by showing extreme courage. The police captain who was fighting till his last breath was severely wounded in the head and died heroically on the battlefield.
He was married and survived by two children.
Mammadov Ali Huseyn was posthumously awarded the title of the “National Hero of Azerbaijan” by the decree # 273 of the president of the republic of Azerbaijan on the 19th of October, 1992.
He was buried in the Alley of Martyrs in Baki city. One of the streets in Rasulzada district of Baki city is named after the hero.
