Guliyev Nofal Zahid

He was born on the 4^th of October, 1963 in Ali – Bayramli city. He finished Ali – Bayramli secondary school in 1991 and one year later was called for military service. After being discharged from the army, he worked at the Air Conditioners Factory.

Nofel moved to Tyumen city along with his family in 1984. He was both working and studying at the Constructions College. After living 6 years in Tyumen, he decided to go back to his home country with his family. Nofel Guliyev applied for the Ministry of Internal Affairs but because of not being registered in Baku and not having permanent passport, he was not accepted. He later, started working for one of the construction companies in Baku. After a while later, he again applied for the Ministry of Internal Affairs. After many difficulties, he was finally accepted to the job as a police officer. Nofel was frequently sent to the combat zones and would usually take 15 – 16 days.

The cold December of 1991… Todan village of Goranboy region was under heavy attack by the enemy. He took up arms again along with his battle friends. The enmy had stronger army and better military equipment. Despite this fact, the brave soldiers did not let the enemy to occupy even one bit of the village. But even though the enemy had a lot of loss, they would not retreat. Nofel took a position in one of the nearby heights. His police friends were already in a safer place. And Nofel was retreating while still fighting. The brave soldier fought till the last drop of his blood while still fighting and being in the enemy blockade. And in the end, in order to be taken captive by the enemy he shot himself in the heart with his last bullet.

He was married and survived by one child.

Guliyev Nofel Zahid was posthumously awarded the title of the “National Hero of Azerbaijan” by the decree # 831 of the president of Azerbaijani republic on the 6^th of June, 1992.

He was muried in the Alley of Martyrs in Ali – Bayramli city. The school # 9 in Ali – Bayramli city is named after the hero.
