He was born in Gazakhbayli village of Gazakh region on the 14th of April, 1952. He studied at the village school till the 8th grade, and in 1969 he finished secondary school of Dash Silahli village. Ali was called for military service in 1971 and was demobilized two years later. After the Army, he started working at Baki Electric Mahcine – Building Plant. Ali was always writing interesting articles and poems at the newspaer called “Elektrik” while working at the Plant. Thus, with the help and notification of the Authority of the Plant and his colleagues Ali Mustafayev entered the faculty of Journalism at ADU (present Baku State University) in 1976. After graduating from the university, he started working as a journalist for Azerbaijani State Teleradio Company in the department of “Xəbərlər” (News) Program in 1981. In a very short time, he won the awards of the “Best Journalist of the Year” and “Golden pen”. While working, Ali continued his education and also finished the School of Baku Supreme Party. He was fearless, intrepid and in a nutshell real journalist. He would always visit the hottest battle zones and would come back with important news from the battle zones. Though he had helicopter accidents many times while flying to the combat areas, it did not stop him from pursuing his goal as a news journalist and bringing the most important news about the war and battle situations in Garabagh.
20th November, 1991…The helicopter that was carrying Government representatives who were on a mission to be familiarized with the tragedies committed in Tugh, Khojavand, Qaradaghli villages was hit by armenians near Garakand village. As a result of this terror act, 23 really good qualified people were tragically killed. And Ali Mustafayev was amongst them as well.
He was married and survived by three sons.
Mustafayev Ali Mustafa was posthumously awarded the title of the “National Hero of Azerbaijan” by the decree # 294 of the president of Azerbaijani republic on the 6th of January, 1992.
He was buried in the Alley of Martyrs in Baki city He was also posthumously awarded the title of “Honored Journalist of the Republic”.
The school # 202 in Narimanov district of Baki city as well as one of the streets of the 3rd district is named after the hero.
